How to fix a Tesco Hudl with a frozen screen
****
We have now posted a to downloading and applying the official Tesco fix for Hudls suffering from this frozen screen fault. Please click the link above for details.
The Tesco Hudl was a ground-breaking device when it was released late last year. With it’s ultra-cheap price tag and decent specs proving popular with consumers. But some Which? members have told us that they have experienced problems with the screen freezing. We investigate why this is happening and how to fix it.
What’s the problem?
Some Tesco Hudl owners have experienced a problem with the touchscreen on their device. This is caused by a software bug which affects the calibration of the touchscreen causing the bottom lefthand quadrant to freeze.
This means that if you’re trying to swipe through menus or select buttons in this corner, you won’t be able to and your tablet will become unresponsive.
How can I fix the problem?
Tesco is looking into the matter and will release a fix. But in the meantime try locking the tablet without using the touchscreen. To do this, simply press the power button which will dim the tablet and put it to sleep. To wake your Hudl up again, tap the power button again and unlock the tablet as normal.
What if it’s still broken?
If this doesn’t overcome the problem and you’re not prepared to wait for a software fix, then you can take your Hudl back to Tesco to exchange it for another or get a refund.
What is Tesco doing about it?
The supermarket giant has released a statement saying:
It is an issue with the software not the hardware and we are developing a software update to correct it. The update will be available for customers to download very soon. – Tesco spokesperson
When asked how soon is “very soon”, Tesco said the fix should be released in five weeks.
