*We have been told that Lowes and Home Depot only offer discounts to disabled Vets. Others say they get it by being a vet. Still others say they only give a discount to non-disabled Vets on Veterans Day. (Our suggestion is to always ask what the policy is.)

PARKS

Parks and Recreation Benefits Free Admission to State Owned or State-Operated Parks or Museums: All honorably discharged Veterans who are currently Oklahoma residents shall be allowed free admission to all state-owned or state-operated parks and museums. A valid Oklahoma driver license or state photo identification card and military discharge papers (DD Form 214) or similar evidence of an honorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces shall be required for free admission.

 

Oklahoma State Parks do not charge an entrance fee but there are four parks in the system that have day use fee areas. Natural Falls State Park near West Siloam Springs and the Cisco Road Area at Lake Murray State Park near Ardmore each charge a day use fee of $4.00. The Fisherman’s Point Area at Tenkiller State Park in Vian and the Little Axe Area at Lake Thunderbird State Park in Norman each charge a day use fee of $5.00. This fee is charged per vehicle (carrying up to six passengers). Large vans carrying more than six passengers are charged two day use fees, and buses are charged $15.00. The fee is applied to your overnight camping fees, should you decide to spend the night

In appreciation for their service to our country, day use fees are waived for honorably discharged veterans with proper documentation and Oklahoma senior citizens over the age of 62, with valid identification.

• The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 577, 1109 E. Sixth Street, will host its annual Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday starting at Third Street between Detroit and Boston Avenues at 10 a.m. A free breakfast will be served from 8 to 9:30 a.m. There will be 14 bands performing at the VFW all day along with a children’s bounce house, raffle for a custom Harley Davidson and silent auction. • On Veteran’s Day, Wednesday Nov. 11, participating IHOP Restaurants around the nation will be honoring the brave men and women who have served, or are serving, in the United States Military by offering them free Red, White and Blue pancakes. At some locations, the Red, White and Blue pancakes will be featured as part of a free combo plate including eggs, bacon and hashed browns. Verify  your local IHOP is participating, before going.
• Offering a free doughnut and small coffee to all those served or currently are serving on Veterans Day. A free doughnut and small coffee will be given to anyone who identifies themselves as a veteran or active duty military personnel (no ID required). Only at participating locations.
•     On Veterans Day veterans, active duty military and their spouses get a free tall 12oz  brewed coffee at participating stores.

• 1 free Roast Beef Classic Sandwich on Veterans Day Wednesday, 11/11/2015 during normal business hours. This offer is valid at most participating Arby’s restaurants in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois (Greater St. Louis area), Colorado, Idaho and Wyoming.
• Bohemia: Moveable Feast Caterers, will serve a special version of beans and cornbread free to veterans Wednesday at the Park in the Pearl, 481 S. Peoria Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 9 p.m. or until it’s gone.
