When the wedding is off but the costs aren’t, even with insurance

JERSEY CITY, New Jersey -- A woman hurt in a Jersey City shootout last week said a group of bystanders robbed her as she waited for medical help to arrive.

WABC reports that Yvonne Scott was hit in the back with a bullet while taking her 69-year-old mother to buy car insurance.

After she was shot, she said bystanders approached her and began removing items from a pocket and on her body.

Scott said her purse, jewelry and medicine were all taken. But she is glad to be alive.

"I wasn't concerned with any of that really," she said. "I wasn't concerned about that. I just didn't want to die. I didn't want to die."

Scott has been released from the hospital, but the bullet is still in her back. Scott said a neurosurgeon needs to remove the bullet, because it's so close to her spine.

As for the shooting, it was one of three shootings in the same general area of the city in a three-hour period that day. At least one person was killed in those shootings. Investigators are still trying to determine if they are related.
