Car seat covers take a lot of wear and tear; what with the spilled coffee, the kids eating fast food in the back seats and taking the dogs to the vet. Now it’s time to do something about it! After removing the covers, look for the manufacturer’s care label to see if they are machine washable. If they are, put them in laundry bags or pillowcases tightly tied to keep all straps or hooks from catching on the agitator, and wash on a warm water setting. Cold water will not get out the variety of stains on the fabric. Your regular laundry detergent will be fine and use a gentle wash cycle. If your covers are sheepskin you will want to hand wash them in cold water, spot cleaning any visible stains on them first. Squeeze the covers gently in a cold water bath, using a product like baby shampoo and rinse thoroughly. With either method, do not place your seat covers in the dryer. Line dry to reduce shrinkage or lay flat to dry. You can revitalize your sheepskin covers by fluffing them with a brush.
