Please view our frequently asked questions if you are finding it difficult to apply for your permit online.
The most effective way to manage your permit application is through an email account. This will enable you to update your details and receive reminders and other useful information from us. It will also give you an overview of your application history and allow you to view your remaining visitor voucher entitlement, for example.
To prevent fraudulent applications and to ensure that all permits are awarded in accordance with the council’s parking policy, Lambeth council carries out regular random checks on all types of parking permits. If you fail these checks, you will be asked to provide proof to us that you’re entitled to a permit. If you can’t provide this proof to us your permit will be cancelled.
To prevent this from happening, you should check your account with us and ensure that all the details you’ve provided to Lambeth is up-to-date and accurate. For more information on what kind of documents you’ll need to provide us, please visit our website at:
If you can’t get in to your account, you may have entered the wrong password. Try again with the correct password. If you have forgotten it, click on the link below the password field (“I have forgotten my password”) and you will be given the opportunity to reset your password.
If you have more than one active email account you may be using the wrong email. Make sure you use the email account you used to set up your parking permit account. Check your inboxes to find your confirmation email. We will have sent you a confirmation email when you first set up your account.
If you are unable to create an account, check you have completed all the necessary fields (including 2 telephone numbers – you can repeat your main number if you do not have a mobile and a landline). You will also need to enter your email address and password in both fields.
If you have previously set up an account with us and are now trying to create a new account, you must use a different email address. An email address can only be used once. However, you can update your details on your first account if they have changed or you have made a mistake.
No, you will only need to provide documents if you do not pass the online validation check.
Online validation speeds up the process but it’s not the only way to meet the criteria and get a valid permit. You may have failed for any number of reasons. For example, if you have recently moved into the borough, if you have moved within the borough, if you are not on the electoral register yet, or if you have change your bank account, or utility companies recently.
Failing the online validation only means that we will need to see your documentary proof of residence. You can upload 2 forms of evidence online through your account once you have completed the order and paid for your permit.
These can be:
• Driving licence • Council tax document • Utility bill – dated in last 3 months • Formal tenancy agreement • Bank/credit card statement • Home contents insurance policy • Solicitors completion letter • Electoral canvas form or polling card – dated in the last year
If you are applying for any type of permit other than visitors’ vouchers, you will also need to prove that you are owner, or the main user of the vehicle. Acceptable documents are:
• Vehicle log (V5) • Insurance document (but not a cover note) listing you as a named driver • Letter from a senior employer if you have company car
If you follow the advice above and submit the valid documents listed your application will be successful. If you documentation is invalid, we may have to decline your application and you will be refunded your payment. This will be done automatically through your card.
You can still make a permit application over the counter but our counter service is being reduced. We will not be able to take cash payments, only cards, or cheques. You will find things much more convenient if you apply online but we appreciate that not everyone is online, so we can help you apply at our service centres, or you can still make a postal application.
Yes, you can still get vouchers over the counter at our service centre.
Click on your name link in the top right hand corner of the browser next to the “Welcome”. This will take you back to the main screen and you can start your transaction again, or update your details.
If the payment in your basket is not what you expected to see, it may be that you have selected the wrong type of permit. If you are trying to purchase visitors’ vouchers, you may have selected the wrong number of vouchers. If you are trying to purchase a residents’ permit, you may have selected the wrong duration for the permit. All you need to do is start the transaction again. Click on your name link in the top right hand corner of the browser screen next to the “Welcome”.
You may only park in the zone in which you are resident. The zone you are entitled to park in will be marked on the front of your resident’s permit. In your zone you are entitled to park in resident bays and the following shared use bays; resident/business and resident/pay and display during the hours in which parking restrictions are in force.
As a courtesy, we endeavour to send out permit renewal letters to remind our customers that their permits are about to expire. However there are instances when our citizens might not receive these reminders.
Sending these reminders is not a statutory or legal obligation and Lambeth Council can’t be held accountable if you have forgotten to renew your permit in time. It is the responsibility of our permit holders to make sure they’re parked correctly using a valid permit.
We recommend that you record the expiry date on your permit when you receive it so that you can create a reminder for yourself to renew your permit without relying solely on a letter from the Council to remind you to do so.
We also recommend that you regularly check your permit, just to make sure that it isn’t damaged or obscured in any way, as you might receive a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) if it’s not legible.
The first letter relates to the zone e.g. B for Brixton. This is sometimes followed by a second letter, which relates to an area in a zone e.g. ‘I’ for Inner. The next letter will either be a ‘B’ for business or ‘R’ for resident and this relates to the permit holder allowed to park in that bay.
It is necessary to fill in the application form and provide the supporting documentation to ensure that permits are issued to legitimate applicants only. However you can renew your permit online at www.lambeth.gov.uk/parkingpermits if you have received a renewal letter bearing an online code. You should receive your renewal letter by post approximately 28 days before expiry of your current permit.
The prices are displayed on our website and we issue them with the permit renewal letters. Alternatively the customer centres can provide you with a copy of prices or you can call 020 7926 9000.

Only one permit is issued per vehicle. There is currently no cap on how many permits are issued to a household, but certain new multiple occupancy premises are capped and you will need to check when applying for a permit.
We issue 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 12 month permits.
Unfortunately we cannot issue a permit in this circumstance, as there is no start date on the permit.
We can only issue permits to people with the right documentation. Your partner must provide their vehicle documentation and proof that they live at your address then we can issue a discretionary permit until all their documents are in order or if you are a named driver on your partner’s insurance and you can provide the correct documentation then we can issue the permit to you. Alternatively visitors permits could be used for the short term.
If your car has had to be removed either by the police or by the local authority you can contact TRACE on 0845 2068602.
If you are a resident permit holder you may park in pay and display bays without displaying a pay and display ticket for one hour at the start of and one hour at the end of controlled hours. You may only do this in the zone in which your resident permit is valid and you must display your permit at all times.
For application guidance please call 020 7926 9000.
