Cheap Auto Insurance from Aviva

Hey, I had my car insurance with Aviva last year and it’s says it will auto renew. I can get it cheaper elsewhere so I’d like to cancel the auto-renewal. I’d rather do it online instead of phoning them. Is anyone familiar with their site and knows how to do it? Thanks Andy

Under contact us then cancellation it reads: For cancellation at renewal email policycancellation@aviva.co.uk Please include: Policy number (including registration number for motor cancellation) Surname DOB Postcode Telephone Number However when I did it I received an auto reply saying it was done and a few days later in post a letter saying not enough info to stop auto renewal had been given I used "say no to 870" to find a freephone number for them and it was done instantly over the phone.

Thanks for the info Bettie. I’ve sent an email off and will see how it goes.

Sending them emails is a dangerous way to communicate anything of importance with aviva! In this thread a customer complaining about their dismal service is asked to email them. He does but gets nowhere. He reports this and gets an "interesting" reply from Aviva saying they never got his email – though unfortunately for them he has evidence to the contrary………. Much better to send them written instructions via recorded delivery regarding lapsing your policy at renewal (don’t use the word "cancel"), and ask them to confirm receipt of your instructions.

I agree with Quentin. Not a good idea using email. Why not call them and let them know the reason is you have found it cheaper. See if they will price match/beat it. Then you don’t have to bother signing up elsewhere and maybe save yourself some cash

My autorenewal came with Aviva this morning. Quick search of internet reveals I can get it cheaper elsewhere by £100. Rang them and they couldnt offer any discount of renewal so I cancelled. Incidentally got a new quote from Aviva(online through Quidco) as a new customer and their quote was cheaper than what I had found, and £80 Quidco, so considering whether I can let it exopire for a day, keep my car off the road and reinsure as a new customer. Anyone know if thats allowed?

The new policy will be as thats what they’ve offered. As to the quidco cashback, you’d need to read the terms for the offer – this may exclude returning customers
